AI Citations
AI citation tracking monitors how AI platforms reference, cite, and recommend your client's brand and content. As AI-generated answers replace traditional search for many queries, citation presence is becoming as important as SERP ranking.
What's tracked
For each monitored query, Rankup records:
- Citation presence - is the brand mentioned in the AI response?
- Citation position - where in the response does the mention appear? (early mentions carry more weight)
- Source attribution - does the AI link back to the client's content?
- Sentiment - is the mention positive, neutral, or negative?
- Competitor presence - which competitors are also cited?
Change detection
Brand Radar compares each scan against previous results to detect changes:
- New citation - brand appeared in a response where it wasn't before
- Lost citation - brand was removed from a response
- Position change - brand moved up or down within a response
- Sentiment shift - the tone around the brand mention changed
These changes are surfaced as events in the Brand Radar dashboard and contribute to content effectiveness scores.
Query sources
Monitored queries come from:
- Strategic keyword targets from Content Calendar Engine
- Branded queries (e.g., "[brand] reviews", "is [brand] good")
- Category queries (e.g., "best [industry] in [city]")
- Custom queries you configure manually
